Shuvo Das, a 22-year-old Bangladeshi migrant worker, had been living and working in southern Lebanon since 2024. He was employed on a cattle farm and regularly sent money home to support his parents and siblings. On May 12, 2026, amid continuing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, a drone strike hit the Zebdine area of Nabatieh district where he was staying and working. He was killed in the attack. The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut later informed his family of his death. His passing ended his efforts to lift his family out of poverty and left them in deep grief and financial uncertainty.
Biography
Shuvo Das was a 22-year-old Bangladeshi migrant worker from Shreerampur village in Kalaroa Upazila, Satkhira district, Bangladesh. He was the second of four siblings. After being unable to continue his studies beyond the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level, he moved to Lebanon in 2024 to work on a cattle farm and support his family. He was killed in an Israeli drone strike in May 2026.
Shuvo Das was born to Suranjan Das and Shikha Rani Das in Shreerampur village of Kalaroa Upazila in Satkhira, Bangladesh. He was the second among three sons and one daughter in a financially struggling family. His father worked as a rickshaw van driver, and the family owned no agricultural land.
Due to economic hardship, Shuvo was unable to continue his education after completing his SSC examinations. Determined to help his family, he went to Lebanon in 2024 after the family borrowed money to cover the costs of migration. In Lebanon, he worked on a cattle farm and sent earnings home to support his parents and siblings.
On the night before his death, Shuvo spoke with his mother, who asked him to return home soon. He replied that he planned to come back at the end of the year. Hours later, he was killed in a drone strike in southern Lebanon. His death devastated his family, who had relied on him for financial support and hoped for a better future.
Pleas of Surviving Relatives and Family if any
Shuvo Das’s mother, Shikha Rani Das, said that her only wish was to have her son’s body returned to Bangladesh. She expressed profound grief, recalling that she had spoken with him just hours before his death. His elder brother, Shanto Das, explained that Shuvo had gone abroad to support the family because their father’s income as a rickshaw van driver was insufficient. The family’s main appeal was for the government and the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut to arrange the prompt repatriation of his body.
