Police attempted to pull over a van in northeast Detroit for not having license plates. According to police, they called off the chase at Hayes and Seven Mile, but the van sped north on Hayes until it struck a car at Lappin. The other car burst into flames. Sean Dabney and Patrick Heard, who were inside the burning car, were killed.
