Biography
Hossein Mounesi was a 21-year-old resident of Lordegan in Iran’s Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. He was among a group of young Lor civilians who lost their lives during protests in January 2026, when Iranian security forces opened direct fire on demonstrators. His killing was documented by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights as part of a wider pattern of lethal force used against protesters during the nationwide uprising.
Hossein Mounesi was a young man from the city of Lordegan, a region with a significant Lor population that experienced particularly severe repression during the January 2026 protests. Like many others in his city, he took part in demonstrations opposing government policies and repression. On the evening of January 7, 2026, protests escalated as security units moved in to disperse crowds. Hengaw reports that Iranian forces responded with extreme violence, using live ammunition rather than crowd-control measures. Hossein Mounesi was one of several civilians fatally shot that night, reflecting the broader pattern of state violence documented across Iran during this period.
