She was a distinguished medical professional, having achieved top ranks in the nationwide university entrance examination. After her arrest, the police reportedly told her father, "Iran does not need such medical doctors."
Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi has taken on her case and is currently representing Zahra Bani Yaghoub's family as their official lawyer.
