Biography
Zahra Azadpour, a 27-year-old athlete from Iran, was killed during nationwide protests on the evening of January 9, 2026, after being shot by regime security forces in Karaj. A professional mountaineer and football player, she had competed for several women’s football teams and had been invited to national team training camps. Her body was returned to her family three days later and she was buried in Eslamshahr, near Tehran.
Born in 1998, Zahra Azadpour was an accomplished athlete known for her achievements in both football and mountaineering. She played for the Mehregan Pardis women’s football team in Tehran and had previously represented Azarakhsh and Saba clubs. Zahra was also invited to training camps for Iran’s women’s national football teams. Beyond football, she was recognized as a skilled mountaineer who successfully climbed Mount Damavand and Mount Espilit. She was killed during protests in Karaj, and her family discovered her body three days later. Authorities returned her remains on January 12, 2026, after which she was laid to rest in Eslamshahr.
