
Suicide
William H. Redel reportedly killed himself in a motel room as troopers closed in. Redel was being pursued by police for allegedly holding a woman hostage in a other four hours earlier in California, Missouri. The woman escaped, but police were unable to stop the other. According to the highway patrol, troopers cornered Redel at about 9:45 p.m. at Randles Court Motel, where they saw him in the doorway with a gun. Shots were reportedly fired and troopers entered the room to find Redel with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Redel died at the Eldon airport before he could be airlifted to a hospital.
