By accounts Rowton was distraught over some personal issues. toward midnight he was reported as armed and suicidal. Local police called in a cooperative multijurisdictional SWAT with about 24 officers and a police negotiator, who worked with Rowton for hours into early morning. Just before 3 a.m. a sniper saw him inside, pointing a weapon at police, and Rowton was fatally shot through a plate glass window.
