Smyrna police responded to the Edison at the Battery apartments in regard to a person making threats of suicide. When officers encountered Unsfored Thurman just before 3:30 p.m., he reportedly was holding a gun and threatening to kill himself. The officers reportedly tried to negotiate with Thurmond, but he pointed a firearm toward officers, and an officer shot and killed him.
