A couple of days before, police had responded to a possible burglary call at a house whose owner was deployed overseas. A second call came in regarding suspicious vehicles there. While en route, police were called about shots fired. Officers found a house-sitter shot to death, identified Bradshaw as one of two suspects in the killing, and shot him while attempting to arrest him.
