An off-duty officer shot and killed an unidentified man outside the officer's Far South Side home. Shortly before 8 a.m., neighbors said the man jumped over a fence into the officer's yard and cut a tube to the air conditioner. The officer confronted the man, who then allegedly struck the officer with a cutting instrument before he was shot.
