Deadly force

Around 1:48 p.m., deputies responded to a mental health wellness check for Thomas Barbosa from a family member. Police attempted to pull over Barbosa but he fled in his pickup. Barbosa stopped at the edge of a cliff for several minutes then drove off the cliff. He survived and got out of his pickup brandishing a knife. Less lethal force measures were used, but Barbosa refused to put the knife down, and an officer shot and killed him with a rifle.
