According to HPD, officers pulled over a other that they regarded as suspicious. Cortes, the passenger, gave an officer a false name. The officer told him to get out of the other and tried to detain him. Cortes drew a gun and shot at the officer. They struggled over Cortes's gun. The officer's partner, Q. Vu, fatally shot Cortes.
