Steven Byrdo was holding his girlfriend hostage. An officer entered Brydos apartment. Byrdo fatally shot the officer with a handgun, but the officer was able to fire a few shots at Byrdo. Another officer encountered Byrdo at the door - they exchanged gunfire. Byrdo was killed.
