An officer attempted to stop a pickup truck for a registration violation at around 8:40 a.m. The driver, Lawson Chadwick, 47, allegedly drove through the Hawkeye Oil parking lot before speeding through a residential area. The officer, who police said was more than a block behind Chadwick's pickup, saw Chadwick run a stop sign and hit a City of Cedar Rapids Water Department van driven by Stephen Cook. Cook died at a hospital.
