Less-than-lethal force
Shannon Brown died after police arrested him for allegedly resisting arrest. Officers Baeza, Jones, and Daily had responded to a trespassing complaint at Brown's apartment building at about 9 p.m. According to witnesses, the officers went after Brown instead of the trespassers. Witnesses said the officers pepper sprayed and beat Brown. The officers said that Brown had allegedly swallowed a plastic bag containing drugs. Baeza, Jones and Daily, along with officer Young, brought Brown to the Town Hill Station lock-up, where he began convulsing. Brown was dead on arrival at a hospital. According to the Cook County ME's office, Brown died from cocaine intoxication resulting from the plastic bag breaking in his stomach.
