Ryan L. Byers was killed when he crashed his pickup truck during a police chase. According to police, officers attempted to stop Byers on Frey Street at around 4 a.m. Byers stopped and a passenger got out. Byers then allegedly tried to ram the police car and fled east on 10th at a high rate of speed. Officers continued the pursuit on US 56 into Rice County until Byers entered the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a tractor trailer. The truck caught fire and Byers was pronounced dead at the scene.
