At about 11:47 p.m., Ryan Daniel Gonzalez became involved in an argument with an off-duty U.S. deputy marshal. The argument escalated into a fist fight. It was then that Gonzalez allegedly pulled out a gun. The deputy marshal shot him. Gonzalez ran down an alley with the deputy marshal in pursuit. The marshal caught up with Gonzalez and shot and killed him.
