Deadly force

A suicidal man - sought on federal charges in connection with an international child pornography investigation - died after a shooting confrontation with police in Tempe. The shooting occurred at an apartment complex, where police responded after the man dialed 911 and said he was going to kill himself. Police said the man came out onto his second-floor balcony at least twice and fired shots from a handgun. SWAT officers stormed the apartment. Police said the man grabbed a gun and when he pointed it at police, at least two officers fired. The man then pointed his gun at himself and fired. The man died at the scene. It wasn't immediately known whether the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot or from shots fired by police.
