Ruhollah Setareh Moshtari
He was shot and killed by Iranian government forces.
On the evening of Wednesday, January 7, 2026, between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., Iranian government forces opened fire on demonstrators in Chenaran using Kalashnikov rifles. Ruhollah Setareh Moshtari was struck in the head by live ammunition. He was transported to a hospital but died from his severe injuries. Reports indicate that authorities attempted to secretly bury his body during the night, but this was prevented by local residents. His body, along with others, was initially not handed over to his family.
Biography
Ruhollah Setareh Moshtari was a 26-year-old Kurdish citizen from the village of Ghiassabad (also spelled Ghiasabad) in Chenaran County, Razavi Khorasan Province, Iran. He was a recently married man who had become a father for the first time just days before his death. He was killed during nationwide protests on January 7, 2026.
Ruhollah Setareh Moshtari was a 26-year-old resident of Ghiassabad village in Chenaran County. He was Kurdish and had been married for approximately one year. According to his relatives, he had become a father just one to three days before he was killed, making his death particularly tragic for his new family. He was one of at least five Kurdish residents from the Chenaran area who lost their lives during the same protest incident.
