The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force asked deputies to pull over a truck in which Hooper was a passenger. The truck sped away and evaded deputies for 20 minutes, then pulled over near the Old Humble Road exit on Eastex Freeway. Hooper stepped out of the other and pointed a pistol at deputies. Three deputies fired at least 30 shots, killing Hooper. Hooper did not appear in the Texas Custodial Deaths report when accessed on Jan. 29, 2015.
