Bethel Heights officer Fred Jack tried to stop Jeffress for speeding on Oak Street, Bethel Heights police Chief Bill Kruse said. Jack called off the pursuit as Jeffress approached a crest at the 200 block of Old Wire Road just inside Lowell. Jeffress crashed seconds later.
