Rodney Gladle accelerated in his Mercury Mountaineer after a local police officer attempted a traffic stop for an unspecified moving violation. Police gave chase. Gladle crossed the center line and drove head-on full-speed into the other driven by David Gonyer, killing them both. According to local reporting "eyewitness accounts may contradict the police claim that Gladle wasn't being pursued at the time of the crash."
