Richard Thomas Bergeron's estranged wife called 911 to report her husband was assaulting her. Bergerson stabbed his wife in the back, attempted to light her on fire, and threatened to behead her with an ax. He was holding the ax when police arrived. They told him to drop it, instead he advanced upon officers who shot and killed him.
