Officers tried serving Rick Smeltzer several arrest warrants for sex crimes at a home on Scott Drive. Officials say he answered the door with a gun in his hand. He did not point the gun at officers, but officers backed off. After a six-hour standoff, Smeltzer shot and killed himself.
