Wilcox at the time had three outstanding warrants against him; two for contempt of court and one for failure to appear. An officer tried to pull him over, but Wilcox kept driving eventually pulling into a driveway, jumped from his other and ran into nearby woods where the struggle ensued. The officer shot Wilcox during the struggle.
