Philemon Ellis and Jessica Nelson were both killed when their other was struck by a suspect fleeing police in a high-speed chase. The suspect had left a suspected gang house at about 2:30 a.m., was driving erratically, and fled a traffic stop. Legal action dragged into 2012, reached the Utah Supreme Court, and involved the city's attorney raising inflammatory questions about the relationship between Ellis and Nelson.
