Their life

Osama Mahmoud Adawi was an 18-year-old Palestinian from the Al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron in the southern West Bank. He was killed on October 12, 2022, after being shot by Israeli soldiers during protests at the main entrance of his refugee camp. Osama’s death was part of a broader pattern of escalating violence in the region during that period.

Osama Mahmoud Adawi grew up in the Al-‘Arroub refugee camp, a densely populated area north of Hebron in the southern West Bank, where life is marked by frequent clashes and military incursions. On October 12, 2022, during a protest against an Israeli military operation in the area, Osama was shot in the abdomen by Israeli forces. The soldiers had entered the camp’s main entrance and fired live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs, and concussion grenades to disperse the demonstrators.

Osama was rushed to a nearby clinic suffering from severe bleeding and internal organ damage. Despite efforts by medical staff, including reviving him after his heart stopped, and subsequent transfer to Bethlehem Arab Society Hospital in Beit Jala, he succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the tenth Palestinian fatality in a wave of violence in October 2022, reflecting the deepening tensions and hardship faced by Palestinian communities living under occupation.

Osama’s killing sparked sorrow and outrage within his community and across the West Bank, highlighting the human cost of ongoing confrontations between Israeli forces and Palestinians. His life and death are a stark reminder of the vulnerability of young Palestinians caught in cycles of conflict.
