Less-than-lethal force

Olain Jefferson Jr., 56, allegedly became combative at Southwest Medical Center and assaulted a nurse. Police officers had to struggle to restrain Jefferson who resisted arrest. A spit-hood was placed on Jefferson before he was placed in a police car. At the jail he became combative again and was placed in the prone position on the floor. An autopsy found a blood clot moving into Jefferson's lung was the probable cause of death. He also had PCP in his system. Media reports don't state categorically whether Jefferson was booked, so this incident may be outside of FatalEncounters dataset, which does not include individuals after they've been booked into the jail or prison system.
