On the night of May 13, 2021, the Israeli air force launched widespread airstrikes across Gaza, targeting homes, residential towers, refugee camps, and urban neighborhoods. Nisreen was among the 36 Palestinians who were killed in these bombings. The strikes reduced entire residential blocks to rubble, killed children and whole families in their homes, and overwhelmed Gaza’s already strained hospitals. Nisreen’s death was one among many civilians who perished not because they were combatants, but because they lived in areas heavily targeted by military bombardment.
Biography
Nisreen Naser Mohammed Abu Qleeq was a 25-year-old Palestinian woman from the Gaza Strip. On May 13, 2021, she was among 36 Palestinians killed during a night of relentless Israeli airstrikes that struck homes, residential towers, and neighborhoods across Gaza. Her life was cut short in the bombardment that devastated entire families and left hundreds wounded.
At only 25 years old, Nisreen Naser Mohammed Abu Qleeq belonged to the young generation of Palestinians in Gaza who endured repeated wars, economic blockade, and the constant threat of airstrikes. She lived in the Gaza Strip, an area densely populated and heavily targeted during Israeli military assaults. On the night of May 13, 2021, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of heavy bombardments across Gaza, destroying residential towers, family homes, and vital infrastructure. Entire families, including infants and children, were wiped out in these attacks. Nisreen was one of the 36 Palestinians who lost their lives that night. Her death became part of the devastating toll of Israel’s 11-day offensive in May 2021, which killed at least 247 Palestinians, including 66 children and 39 women. Her name is remembered among those whose ordinary lives were erased in moments of overwhelming destruction.

The all-night-long bombardment of the Gaza Strip targeted homes, apartment towers, and infrastructure, killing 36 Palestinians, and injuring hundreds, in addition to turning many homes and buildings into rubble. Among those killed in the overnight airstrikes were two entire families who were bombed while in their homes. Rafat Mohammad at-Tanani, 39, his pregnant wife and four young children, were in their home in Beit Hanoun town when the Israeli army bombed the area without any warning. The entire residential square was destroyed, including the family’s home. Ra’fat Tanani, 39, his pregnant wife Rawiye, 35, and their children Ismail, 6, Ameer, 5, Adham, 4, and Mohammad, 3, were all killed. The same night that the Tanani family was killed in the north of Gaza Strip coincided with killing another family in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis. The family consisted of five members –all of them died including a one-year-old infant identified as Ibrahim. The father survived. The Israeli air force also fired missiles into a residential tower in the Remal neighborhood, west of Gaza city, turning it into rubble, and causing excessive damage to surrounding homes and buildings. A child, identified as Hala Hussein Rafat ar-Reefy, 14, was among many killed by Israeli missiles in Gaza city. In addition, the army fired missiles, on Thursday evening, at a home in the al-Boreij refugee camp, in central Gaza, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding many others.
