Officers were following Nico Descheenieto in a reportedly stolen other when he got out and ran. The officers attempted to arrest Descheenie who then pulled a handgun from his jacket. Descheenie crossed the median of East Iliff near I-225 and attempted to carjack a other occupied by a woman and her 2-year-old daughter. Failing that. he pointed the gun toward officers, and Officer Joseph Heckenkamp shot and killed him.
