Police said officers tried to pull over a Chrysler 300 after seeing a passenger without a seatbelt near Ford Road and the Southfield Freeway. The car exited the freeway at Ashton, with police in pursuit, into a residential area. According to police, the driver ran a stop sign and struck the front end of a passenger van driving down Ashton, and then crashed into a tree. Both the driver and the passenger were killed.
