Police were dispatched shortly before 8 a.m. to the Southpointe Square Apartments to check on a despondent individual, police said. The man would not open the door. A teenage boy answered the door and was evacuated for his safety, and he told officers he heard a gunshot. Police entered a short time later and found the man dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
