Police said they made a U-turn on Joy to pursue a 1994 Mazda Protege that sped by around 6 p.m. The driver reportedly ran a red light and hit a van travelling south on Hubbell. Two boys in the van and a passenger in the Mazda were killed. Four other people in the van were injured. The driver of the Mazda was critically injured. Police claimed it was not an official chase because it hadn't been phoned into the dispatch center.
