How they died

Vehic/Purs

At around 3:30 a.m., two officers in southwest Detroit tried to stop a 1999 Chrysler Concorde that had been reported stolen, police said. The passenger jumped out and escaped on foot. The driver allegedly pulled out a 9mm pistol and fired several shots at the officers, then sped away on Cavalry. Police said both officers fired at the fleeing car. According to police, the officers didn't chase the car and waited for a supervisor at the location where the shooting took place. Meanwhile, the Chrysler drove southbound on Cavalry and onto the service drive, where the driver lost control of the car. The car jumped the curb and flew over the freeway embankment, clipping the top of a southbound 18-wheeler before landing on the northbound lane of the freeway.
