Officers were dispatched to a home on Pine Lake Avenue at 12:43 a.m., after a man told 911 operators he was in his basement with a shotgun to his head. Police said they heard three gunshots from inside the resident, then observed a man walking inside the home. At 5 a.m. the La Porte County Sheriff Department entered the residence and found a dead man with a shotgun nearby.
