Their life

Nafeth Mohammad al-Khatib was a 50-year-old Palestinian man from Jabalia, a densely populated refugee camp and town in the northern Gaza Strip. He was killed on August 6, 2022, when Israeli missiles struck homes in the area during a military offensive that began the day prior.

Nafeth Mohammad al-Khatib, aged 50, was a resident of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, one of the most overcrowded and impoverished areas in the region. Known among his community as a devoted family man and a part of the broader fabric of life in Jabalia, Nafeth became one of the civilian casualties during a series of Israeli airstrikes launched on Gaza beginning August 5, 2022. On August 6, while at home, Israeli missiles struck residential buildings in Jabalia, leading to his death. His killing occurred amidst a broader escalation of violence in which, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least twenty-four Palestinians were killed over the span of two days, including six children. More than two hundred others, many of them women and children, were injured in the bombardment. Nafeth's death reflects the ongoing toll of repeated cycles of conflict in Gaza, where civilians often bear the brunt of military actions.

How they died

Nafeth Mohammad al-Khatib died from injuries caused by an Israeli missile strike that hit residential homes in Jabalia, Gaza, on August 6, 2022.

Nafeth Mohammad al-Khatib died as a result of injuries sustained during an Israeli airstrike that targeted residential areas in Jabalia, located in the northern Gaza Strip. On August 6, 2022, Israeli forces launched a missile attack as part of a wider military operation that began the previous day. The missile strike directly hit civilian homes, causing widespread destruction and civilian casualties. Nafeth was inside one of the homes that were struck, and the force of the explosion led to fatal injuries. The blast likely caused severe trauma, including shrapnel wounds, blunt force injuries from collapsing structures, and possibly burns due to the intense heat and fire caused by the missile impact. He died on the scene or shortly after, along with others in the densely populated neighborhood. His death was part of a broader wave of civilian losses that highlighted the high cost of military operations in populated urban areas like Jabalia, where non-combatants are especially vulnerable due to the lack of safe shelter and the dense infrastructure.
