Mojahed Mahmoud Hamed

Mojahed Mahmoud Hamed, 32, was a Palestinian man from the town of Silwad, located east of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank. Known in his community as a quiet and determined individual, Mojahed's life was cut short on December 6, 2022, when he was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers near Deir Dibwan, also east of Ramallah. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the Israeli military opened fire on Mojahed, chased him, and later took him to an undisclosed location. Hours later, the General Authority of Civil Affairs was informed that he had died from his wounds. His body was returned to the Palestinian side after an initial refusal by the Israeli army and was transported to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah.
The Israeli army claimed that Mojahed had fired at their military post from a moving vehicle, describing him as a “suspect” who was "neutralized." However, this terminology—often used by Israeli authorities—has been widely criticized by rights organizations for obfuscating the killing of Palestinians. Mojahed’s death came amid a particularly violent period in the West Bank, with multiple Palestinians being killed by Israeli forces in a matter of days.

Mojahed’s killing sparked grief and outrage in his hometown and across the region. He is remembered by family, friends, and neighbors as a hardworking young man who, like many in Silwad and across the occupied territories, lived under the daily strain of military presence and restrictions. His death contributed to the rising toll of Palestinians killed in 2022, a year marked by heightened violence and military raids in the West Bank.
