Mohammed Salah Najm, 17, was a Palestinian teenager from Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip. He was one of many children tragically killed during the Israeli military’s three-day offensive on Gaza from August 5 to August 7, 2022. He died in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a civilian area near his home.

On August 7, 2022, Mohammed Salah Najm, 17, was killed when an Israeli drone-fired missile struck Al-Fallujah cemetery, located west of the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. The strike occurred around 7 p.m., targeting an area where no combat was taking place. The attack resulted in the deaths of five Palestinian children, including Mohammed. The others killed were Jameel Najmuddin Jameel Najim (3), Hamed Heidar Hamed Najim (16), Jameel Ihab Jameel Najim (13), and Nathmi Fayez Abdulhadi Abu Karsh (15).

Mohammed’s death occurred during a broader Israeli military assault on Gaza that began on August 5, leading to the deaths of at least 44 Palestinians, including 17 children, and injuring over 350 others, according to Al Jazeera. A ceasefire took effect on the night of August 7. The airstrikes followed the arrest of a senior Islamic Jihad leader in Jenin and the killing of Dirar Riyad Lufti Al-Haj Saleh, 16, during protests against Israeli military raids.
