Biography
Mohammed al-Khaldi (died 11 August 2025), known online as “The Dynamo”, was a Palestinian investigative reporter, digital journalist, and social media commentator from Gaza. Beloved for his enthusiasm and optimism, he built a following of over 22,000 Instagram users who turned to him for informative and relatable videos about life in Gaza and the wider world. His work ranged from environmental investigations to lighthearted explainers about science, culture, and global politics. After the outbreak of war in October 2023, his tone became more serious, highlighting the dangers facing Gazans and journalists. Despite unimaginable hardship, he continued to report creatively on the daily resilience of Gaza’s people. He was fatally wounded in an Israeli airstrike on 10 August 2025 and died a day later, leaving behind a legacy of courage, humor, and humanity.
Mohammed al-Khaldi, a young journalist from Gaza, began his media career in 2017, posting his first investigative video on Instagram — a report about carcinogenic compounds in fruit sold in Gaza’s markets. This early work showcased his commitment to community well-being and his instinct for investigative storytelling.
In November 2020, he launched his popular online series “One Minute Trend”, through which he explained trending topics in short, engaging videos filmed in his bedroom. He discussed subjects ranging from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope to geopolitical tensions and the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, blending education with humor and accessibility.
Known as “The Dynamo” for his energetic personality, he became a beloved voice among Gazans, offering both insight and hope amid hardship.
After 7 October 2023, when the war in Gaza intensified, al-Khaldi’s content shifted dramatically. His tone grew more urgent and somber as he decried the media blackout and the targeting of journalists. “The occupation has imposed a media blackout on the genocide it is committing,” he said in one video. Still, he maintained hope, documenting how ordinary Gazans used creativity and resilience to survive amid destruction. His final video, posted just before his death, celebrated a homemade portable cardboard fan invented to fight Gaza’s summer heat and power cuts — a symbol of the ingenuity he so admired.
On 10 August 2025, al-Khaldi was seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike near Shifa Hospital, the same attack that killed Al Jazeera journalist Anas al-Sharif. He succumbed to his injuries the next day, 11 August 2025. His death was widely mourned by colleagues, followers, and international press organizations, who praised his dedication to truth, creativity, and resilience.
