Their life

Mohammad Jarghoun, aged 23, was a young Palestinian journalist and field reporter for the Smart Media production company. He was among the first journalists killed on 7 October 2023, while covering the initial stages of the war near the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza. Known for his energy and determination, Mohammad was dedicated to documenting events in Gaza and sharing the truth with the world.

Born and raised in the Gaza Strip, Mohammad Jarghoun developed a passion for journalism at a young age. After completing his studies, he joined Smart Media, a local production company that supplied video and reports to several regional outlets. His work focused on the daily realities of life in Gaza — from social stories to the effects of the ongoing blockade and conflict.
On 7 October 2023, as Israel and Hamas entered a new phase of violent confrontation, Mohammad was reporting from the Rafah area, near the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt. He was covering clashes and the unfolding military operations when he was struck and killed by Israeli gunfire. Colleagues described him as “brave, committed, and full of promise,” one of the new generation of Gaza journalists determined to tell their people’s story despite constant danger.
