Mohammad Hasan Abu Sam’aan, 32, was a Palestinian from Gaza City who was killed on May 17, 2021, when Israeli missiles struck the Maldives Café along the Gaza City seaside. The attack also killed three other Palestinians and wounded many others. Mohammad’s death occurred during the ninth day of Israel’s large-scale bombardment of Gaza, which targeted homes, businesses, public facilities, and infrastructure, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

Mohammad Hasan Abu Sam’aan, 32, lived in Gaza City and was among the many civilians killed during the May 2021 Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip. On May 17, Israeli warplanes fired missiles at the Maldives Café, a popular seaside spot in Gaza City, killing Mohammad and three others—Mohammed Jamal ‘Ali Abu Sam’an, 24; ‘Ali Waleed al-‘Abed Burais, 30; and Ahmed Khalil Hejazi al-Louh, 24. The strike was so powerful that, according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), the victims’ bodies were torn apart. This attack was part of a series of bombardments that day across Gaza, including drone strikes and missile attacks on homes in Beit Lahia and Jabalia, as well as other civilian areas. The offensive on that day alone killed at least ten Palestinians, including one woman and one child, and injured over 120 people, many critically. Mohammad Hasan Abu Sam’aan was killed instantly when Israeli fighter jets fired missiles directly at the Maldives Café along the Gaza City coastline. The missiles caused massive explosions, killing Mohammad and three other Palestinians and injuring many more. The intensity of the blast caused severe dismemberment of the victims, as reported by medical and human rights sources.
