White's parents called for reconsideration of his death in a Volkswagen Passat being chased by county deputy, at speeds of over 100 MPH for 15 miles. The deputy had lied about his speed, about being told the car was stolen, about not being in pursuit. Moreover his other was found to have struck the Passat, and (at the time of the appeal) the former deputy was serving a 15-year prison stretch for sexual abuse of boys.
