Police pursued Michael Van Loftin of Arkansas who was reportedly driving a stolen pickup truck from Texas. Van Loftin was cornered by police near the intersection of South Wheatley and East County Line Road when he was shot. Accounts differ as to whether police officers or Van Loftin fired first.
