According to police, officer Scott Hitchcock tried to stop Michael Lyle Adams' Saturn sedan for an equipment violation at about 3 a.m. Adams pulled into a driveway and got out of his other allegedly brandishing a 9 mm handgun. Hitchcock reportedly shot Adams, who then retrieved a 7.62-caliber SKS rifle from his car and told his three passengers that he wasn't going to be arrested.
