Deadly force

On Dec. 9, 2012 two patrol officers on Interstate 5 near Tillicum conducted a routine records check on a other also traveling northbound. The car was reported stolen. When the officers attempted to stop the car, a high speed pursuit ensued. Michael David Crawford took the Portland Avenue exit, lost control of the car and skidded to a stop in the center of the road. The patrol car collided with Crawford's other, pinning all inside their cars. Crawford fired at the officers. The driving officer got out of the other and shot Crawford. The other officer also shot Crawford.Crawford was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
