Matthew was under psychiatric care for eight years with a diagnoses of bipolar disorder. On April 2, 2014, after a visit with his psychiatrist due to a disruption of his medications, Matthew called 911 for medical assistance. A Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy responded to Matthew's call for assistance and within a matter of seconds shot Matthew, who was unarmed, in the back multiple times killing him.
