With "several convictions for alcohol and criminal mischief violations" in his past, Cynewski was familiar to local police. Local officers got a mid-afternoon call from the state police about Cynewski's other being driven erratically on the interstate. During a chase that ranged up to 100 MPH, Cynewski lost control and had a fatal one-car crash on the grounds of the local cemetery.
