Officer Jeremy Dear shot and killed 19-year-old Mary Hawkes after a foot chase outside of a trailer park in SE Albuquerque.Police said Dear shot Hawkes after she pointed a gun at Dear during the chase. In a successful wrongful death suit against Albuquerque, the Hawkes family's lawyer argued that Dear's version of events was impossible and noted that Hawkes DNA was not found on the gun. The Hawkes family was awarded $5 million in the lawsuit. Officer Dear was fired in 2014 for not videotaping his encounters as required.
