Around 9:40 p.m., deputies were called to an accident involving an off-duty Glynn County Police officer and Markel Dezman Matthews. Matthews allegedly rear-ended the officer's marked car. The man allegedly attacked the officer. Matthews reportedly told the officer, "You will have to kill me," before running onto the highway, where several cars hit and killed him.
