Around 11 a.m., a deputy stopped a other in which the driver was the sole occupant. The deputy allegedly saw indicators to investigate the driver for potential drug trafficking, and Dehut was arrested. He was taken to a sheriff's substation. Dehut was described as cooperative and willing to provide a statement. There was no force used by any of the deputies involved. During the interview, Dehut began to act strangely. Medics reportedly arrived within five minutes of being called. Dehut's condition deteriorated from there, and medics administered "multiple rounds" of Narcan, a drug which quickly counteracts the effects of an overdose. Dehut died.
